Pokeweed! It might be the most common weed in my yard. Mostly in my flower beds.

  1. That might be pokeweed. Let it get bigger, or go to flower, and it will be easier to tell. (Though it has a hefty root. If you let it go to flower, you'll need to really soak the soil well before pulling it up.)

  2. Yes! Pokeweed! Of course. I'm going to let a group of them grow for the berries. The birds will like them and maybe I'll use some berry juice for ink. Even though people used to eat poke salad, and maybe they still do, I think I'll avoid eating it. Sounds seriously poisonous if not boiled just right. Thanks Michelle.

  3. Somebody put that stuff in a can?! Yeah, I'm also suspicious of foods that have to be processed a lot in order not to be poisonous. Maybe if I were desperate. . . That's awfully nice of you to grow it for the wildlife!
